Sustainability at The Brew Creek Centre
Posted April 4 2014
According to the Environmental Protection Agency, sustainability is based on a simple principle: Everything that we need for our survival and well-being depends, either directly or indirectly, on our natural environment. Sustainability creates and maintains the conditions under which humans and nature can co-exist in productive harmony, that permit fulfilling the social, economic and other requirements of present and future generations.
At The Brew Creek Centre, we are committed to sustainability in the following ways:
On-site vegetable cultivation and composting
Recycling in our kitchen and guest accommodations
Supporting local artisans, service providers and farmers
Furthermore, we encourage Green Meetings and events by using paperless technology, offering electronic registration, advertising using the web and/or email and computer scheduling of the facilities lighting and heating based directly upon occupancy.
Green Weddings: We host many weddings throughout the year and a key concept for providing an environmentally-friendly wedding is to ensure that goods being used are re-useable. These include plates, cups, ornaments and wedding favors. Renting items needed for the wedding instead of purchasing new equipment and decor decreases the amount of waste. The average wedding produces 400 lbs of garbage and 63 tons of CO2, according to The Green Bride Guide. This can include cut flowers, paper (invitations), gas emissions (transportation), and everything else that results from the wedding.
We suggest purchasing flowers that can be planted after the big day, using recycled paper for invitations, or sending electronic invitations via email, choosing a Green Sustainable Venue such as The Brew Creek Centre, and having our Chef source local, organic produce for your meals.
The degree to which The Brew Creek Centre has invested in advanced technology to conserve energy to the maximum possible ensures the Bride and Groom that the carbon foot print created by hosting their event at The Brew Creek Centre will bbe significantly lower than any other comparable venue.
